MWC Kigali 2025 Recap | The Angaza Experience Beyond the Booth

From October 21–23, Angaza joined global and African leaders, innovators, and policymakers at MWC Kigali 2025, held at the Kigali Convention Centre. The event brought together key voices from across the mobile, fintech, and technology sectors, united by one shared goal — to accelerate Africa’s digital transformation.

Over three days, nearly 80 exhibitors and 230 speakers explored how mobile connectivity, fintech, and AI are reshaping Africa’s digital landscape. Key sessions such as “Africa’s Future First: Determining the Path to a Digital Future” and “Networks that Think: Harnessing AI for Scalable Telecom Growth” emphasized that people must remain at the center of innovation for sustainable progress.

From the sessions and conversations, several insights stood out with direct relevance to Angaza’s work in supporting device financing across emerging markets. Africa is witnessing a major transition from 2G and 3G to 4G and 5G networks, driven by the growing affordability and accessibility of smartphones.

According to the GSMA Mobile Economy Africa 2025 Report, 4G connections accounted for 45% of total mobile connections in Africa in 2024, surpassing 3G to become the dominant technology. This figure is expected to reach 54% by 2030, while 5G subscriptions in Sub-Saharan Africa are projected to grow from 11 million in 2024 to 400 million by 2030.

This migration will be powered by the expansion of smartphone financing programs through telcos, distributors, and retail partners,  making modern smartphones more accessible to consumers. The growing demand for scalable, data-driven loan management platforms will play a key role in enabling this shift.

As the leading loan management platform for secure device financing in Sub-Saharan Africa, Angaza is well positioned to support businesses through this transformation. With over 6 million active loans managed through the Angaza Hub and integrations with multiple device-locking partners, the platform enables distributors and manufacturers to confidently sell and manage a wide range of lockable Android devices.

This capability directly supports the next phase of Africa’s digital growth — ensuring that the transition to 4G and 5G is inclusive, accessible, and sustainable.

The conversations at MWC Kigali reaffirmed Angaza’s mission to empower partners with the technology and insights they need to scale smartphone financing and extend digital access across the continent.
